At Hedgewood School, Children are at the heart of everything we do. We have the privilege of enabling children to reach their full potential by exploring what might be possible; meeting each child at their stage of learning. We instill a love of learning and support our children to make positive choices about their behaviour, both in and out of school, so they become successful members of the wider community.

Our approach is driven by a holistic understanding of each young person’s needs and strengths, based on both formal and informal assessments. Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do, underpinning our teaching and learning, and ensuring an environment that instils a love of learning. ‘Learning’ encompasses all that is necessary for our children to become successful, confident and happy citizens. Our curriculum is designed so it can be tailored to each childs individual’s needs. We work closely with our families, strengthening the vital home-school partnership, to secure the best possible outcomes for our children.

We aim to:

• Develop children’s communication and social skills, encouraging increased self-advocacy.
• Ensure an environment that consistently challenges, stimulates, cares, and provides optimal learning opportunities, in which children feel safe, happy and eager to learn.
• Move children towards greater independence, while understanding how to keep themselves safe.
• Grow children’s self-esteem and confidence, building their resilience and self-regulation.
• Ensure an inclusive environment, in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and know their contributions are valued.
• Further develop staff’s knowledge and skills, deepening their understanding of how best to meet the individual learning needs of each child.
