Music

We believe music is a universal language that enables all pupils to express themselves, communicate, and connect with others. Our music curriculum is designed to be fully inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and highly engaging for pupils with a range of complex needs.

We aim to foster a lifelong enjoyment of music by creating opportunities for every child to explore sound, develop their musical understanding, and experience success in a supportive and joyful environment.

Through carefully planned and adapted teaching—drawing on the Charanga music scheme—we provide rich musical experiences that support communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing.

Our pupils will learn to recognise and respond to core musical elements such as rhythm, pitch, and tempo, and to use their voices, bodies, instruments or technology to participate in and create music. We focus on four key skills throughout our music curriculum: listening and understanding, creating, controlling and responding, and reviewing.

These skills are developed progressively through accessible, engaging activities tailored to each pupil’s needs and strengths.

We aim for all pupils to:

  • Develop listening and attention through structured and enjoyable musical activities
  • Build an understanding of musical concepts through repeated, practical experiences
  • Express themselves musically using voice, movement, instruments, or AAC
  • Enjoy a wide range of musical genres, cultures and traditions
  • Participate in co-active and independent music-making experiences
  • Grow in confidence and self-esteem through musical performance and collaboration

Our music curriculum ensures that every pupil, regardless of their starting point, has access to high-quality musical learning that is meaningful, motivating, and tailored to their individual needs. By embedding music across the curriculum and school life, we support pupils to make connections, communicate, and flourish through sound.

Our Music Mark Award

We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded Music Mark status for Dedication and Improvement by Hillingdon Music Service.

This recognition celebrates our school’s commitment to delivering progressive and effective music education, and reflects the dedication of our staff and pupils in developing a strong musical culture across the school.

Music Mark status highlights the value we place on high-quality music education and provides opportunities to further enhance our provision through continued partnership and support.

We look forward to working closely with Hillingdon Music Service throughout the academic year and beyond, and we are proud to have our efforts in music education recognised in this way.
